The discovery of our wonderful body ....
We turn on the outside and we are bombarded with dozens, hundreds of models of life, rules, moral impositions. If we try to look within ourselves, sometimes the confusion may increases ... .. What is right? What is good? What is the way to go? And if we look in the mirror, we see a surrogate in our appearance, a form of compensation, our body is something to take care of, to beautify ... but sometimes we don’t see clearly the path that leads directly to our inner self, to look within ourselves with transparency.
But perhaps the first point of certainty is just our being there, the wonderful concrete and flesh of our existence, our body. With our body we love, we rejoice, we suffer, we work, we rush in a thousand of enterprises.
While we punch, we feel our being, our vitality in the power of that punch that beats .... This body is the first concrete certainty of our existence, the first place to live and to love.
Today, even the great advances in scientific knowledge are helping us to better understand. All our mental and physical realities coexist in a single dimension, a holistic dimension. Psychoneuroendocrinoimmunology ... yes, because we now know that our psyche and all the systems that regulate our body, the central and peripheral nervous system, endocrine and immune systems, are connected in a crosswise and bidirectional way. In fact in our body there aren’t sectoralisations, but everything is working as a unit.
But there is more: our body is intelligent ....
The research led us to understand the anatomy and function of a neuronal network located in the gastro-intestinal tract, the gastrointestinal or visceral or second brain. Despite having already been identified in mid-1800 and despite being the subject of extensive research in the nineteenth century, the gastrointestinal brain has been completely neglected by the Medicine for the inability to understand its true importance. This neural network system is a real second brain, working like a powerful neuroendocrinoimmunity system, which is closely linked to the superior or first brain with a bi-directional relationship.
Today, thanks to the knowledge acquired from PNEI and neurogastroenterology, we can consider the human body as a beautiful and sophisticated integrated system, in which the intellectual capacity to know isn’t a specific property of the superior brain alone, but it is distributed throughout the body and, in particular, in the visceral brain.
We could say that ALL OUR BODY IS INTELLIGENT….
The five senses and the visceral brain function as a complex cognitive system, capable of receiving stimuli originating either from the inside and from the outside; the recorded data are integrated into a unified knowledge, which is received and processed by superior brain.
The awareness of our bodily knowledge could be the much sought passage, the passage that would allow us to access the wider world of our inner life.
